EVENING VIGIL: "The Practice of the Examen"
I think of the Examen as the evening companion to my Morning Lauds. It's a centuries-old practice, rooted in the teachings of Ignatius of Loyola and reinterpreted for a new generation. And I've recorded a video (below) to guide friends in the rhythm and flow of it. You can watch and follow along. Or you might want to close your eyes, listen and follow in that way. There will be prompts and spaces...in which you can offer your own prayers and reflection...making this old practice your own. I find it a very meaningful way to wind down the day--reflecting on the day's ebb and flow, investigating different moments and challenges, receiving God's encouragement and grace. Discipleship is shaped by such reflection, this kind of wonder, joy and (sometimes) self-correction. Examen!
