Lengthen my soul, river of light,
In the hour of holy uncertainty
As my feet find steps my eye cannot see.
Lengthen my soul, hallowing sky,
For the doubting and unknowing
That come with midnight's mocking.
Lengthen my soul, voice of the owl,
And I will fall to my knees weeping
For the mystery I cannot name
But fully trust like breath, like grace,
Like the bare trees in March, soon to bud,
Like the Child of God who washes our feet.
Today's accumulations flee with evening's breeze.
Today's obsessions set with the sun's last light.
And you and I remain, to pray, to remember,
To speak unspeakable words of mercy and hope.
Enough, enough, my soul,
For this day, these hours, life together is always enough.
