Siblings in faith and hope,
I look around the sanctuary each Sunday and I see such energy, such resilience, such hope. And there's really no question that much of this energy is generated in our work, in our accompaniment with refugees and migrants among us. Their faith has emboldened us. Their gifts have inspired us. Is there any question that we are a wiser community for their partnership? Is there any question that New Hampshire itself is a stronger democracy for our emerging diversity?
As we observe International Migrants Day this week, our friends at the American Friends Service Committee invite us to a Candlelight Vigil at the Detention Center in Dover. Over many years now, the Center has been a government-funded holding facility for refugees and migrants without legal standing. Our congregation--with AFSC and partners--has advocated for their safety, for justice and resources, and for the hospitality of our many communities. As we do unto them...
I hope you'll join me, and many friends from the Community Church of Durham, at this Thursday's vigil in Dover, at the Strafford County center (266 County Farm Road in Dover).
