Make Us Instruments of Peace

From Sunday's Santa Cruz Sentinel:

"About a dozen guns were collected at First Congregational Church.  One gun was turned in to the Sheriff's Office in Felton and eight were turned into the one in Live Oak, deputy April Skalland said.
At least seven guns were collected in Watsonville.  The guns surrendered Saturday will be destroyed by a company that specializes in cutting up and melting down gun parts, Santa Cruz police Lt. Dan Flippo said.  The company will issue certificates to the Department of Justice to verify the firearms have been destroyed, Flippo said."  Read More!

“Make Us Instruments of Peace”

A Hymn Celebrating the Prayer of St. Francis
Words: Dave Grishaw-Jones, 2008
Tune: Come, O Fount of Every Blessing (Celebration)
Hyfrodol by R. Pritchard/P. Mayer/J. Shelton (Jazz)

Make us vessels of your mercy,
Make us instruments of peace.
Where there’s hatred, where there’s envy,
Let us sow love’s sacred seeds.
Where there’s violence, where there’s injury,
Let us pardon foe and friend.
In forgiving, we’re forgiven
By the grace that knows no end.

Make us vessels of your mercy,
Make us instruments of peace.
When your children cry in anguish,
Let us be the church they need.
When their hunger seems so endless,
Let us be the church that feeds.
In our giving, joy we’re given:
Love, our savior; love, our creed.

Make us vessels of your mercy,
Make us instruments of peace.
First are last, and leaders follow;
Follow Christ and bless the least.
Last are first, and servants prosper:
Feast in friendship!  Open doors!
In our dying, fearless living,
Life is ours forever more.
