National Geographic: "Climbing in Oman"

I saw this piece first in the January 2014 edition of National Geographic--and the pictures there nearly took my breath away.  While I can't imagine (in my wildest dreams) having agility enough (or purpose enough) for this kind of climbing, I can somehow appreciate the passion, the joy, the freedom of these climbers.  Doing what they love.  Investing totally in the moment.  Knowing when to reach higher and when to let go.

I wonder if discipleship's not like this.  Instead of training up timid keepers of timeless tradition, maybe we should be training up rock climbers like Alex, Mark and Jimmy.  Climbers who enjoy the challenge.  Climbers who know there's water below.  Climbers who touch the holy on the way up--and feel it all the way down.
