Beloved Community: A Language of Belonging

In the Room with john a. powell from On Being on Vimeo.

There's just so much in this conversation that resonates, rings, challenges.  Among other things, John Powell says that a primary American project has to be reimagining, recasting, revisioning 'whiteness.'  If 'whiteness' is American exceptionalism and individualism; if whiteness is going it alone; if whiteness is the human being's inclination toward mastery of destiny and control over surroundings; then this is a huge barrier to justice, equality and the beloved community.  With hope, longing and decency, Powell offers ways forward and a vision of belonging that grounds our politics in openness toward all others and a common project: creating our humanity and welcoming an always evolving future.  This is a special conversation, with deep relevance to our conversations around race, inequality and violence in our time!
