Blessed are the Peacemakers

Stanley Hauerwas says that that discipleship leads to the beatitudes, rather than the other way around.  If we're out there on the road, at the checkpoints, in the struggle, and if we're out there with Jesus, we're soon enough emptied of spirit.  We're seized by mercy.  We're persecuted for righteousness' sake.  Not because of any great achievement on our parts.  Not because of any huge moral muscle.  But because that's where Jesus is.  And that's how Jesus rolls.  I'm grateful for the Palestinian leaders--and particularly, the disciples among them--for showing me this.  Blessed are those dear ones who hunger and thirst for justice!
