TUESDAY LAUDS: "Prayers in Community"

I hope you'll freely join me for Lauds, our morning prayers, as the Beloved Community greets each new day in peace and faith.  Let our hearts be opened wide to the invitation of Jesus: to love abundantly, to do justice bravely and to seek the peace of our cities, towns and nations.  All are most welcome to pray with us!  I'll post a video each morning between 7 and 10 am.

PRAYERS FOR TUESDAY, MARCH 17:

Opening Verse
In the morning when I rise,
In the morning when I rise,
In the morning when I rise
         Give me Jesus...

Peace, Salaam and Shalom to you, dear friends, as light dawns a new day, a day that is both sacred and strange, a day that is both gift and opportunity.  May our Morning Prayers together bring you courage and connect you to the beloved community of spirit that knows you and calls you friend.

Morning Prayer (Hildegard of Bingen)
         Holy Spirit,
         Giving life to all life,
         Moving all creatures,
         Root of all things,
         Washing them clean,
         Wiping out their mistakes,
         Healing their wounds,
         You are our true life,
         Luminous, wonderful,
         Awakening the heart
         From its ancient sleep.

People's Response
“Jesu Tawapano” (Jesus, we are here for you.)

The Magnificat of Mary of Nazareth
         Refrain:
Whoever does the will of God
Is sister, mother and brother to Christ,
Yes, sister, mother and brother to Christ.

Prayers of the People
With gratitude for the bonds of friendship, in faithfulness to our calling as the beloved community, we pray now, for one another, for all our neighbors, and for sisters, brothers and friends near and far.

Kyrie eleison, Christe eleison, Kyrie eleison.

For those who are sick, and ailing, that they may know the generous spirit of grace and have access to the best of care and counsel:

         Kyrie…

For those are anxious and frightened, that they may know the calming touch of your peace and find comfort and companionship among friends:

         Kyrie…

For health professionals around the world, for first responders, and for public health servants who are working to provide clear guidance, effective testing and compassionate care:

         Kyrie…

For leaders in the political and financial communities, for civil and administrative officials, for all those working tirelessly to implement safe and just measures to keep us well:

         Kyrie…

For the children among us, for teenagers asking for counsel, that they might know your comfort and encouraging presence in the midst of new routines and daily activities:

         Kyrie…

The Light of Your Soul (from the Irish Poet John O'Donohue)
May the light of your soul guide you.
May the light of your soul bless the work you do
with the secret love and warmth of your heart.
May you see in what you do the beauty of your own soul.
May the sacredness of your work bring healing, light, and renewal
to those who work with you and to those who see and
                  receive your work.
May your work never weary you.
May it release within you wellsprings of refreshment,
                  inspiration and excitement.
May you be present in what you do.
May you never become lost in the blind absences.
         May the day never burden.
May dawn find you awake and alert, approaching your new day
                  with dreams, possibilities and promises.
May evening find you gracious and fulfilled.
May you go into the night blessed, sheltered and protected.
May your soul calm, console and renew you.
         Amen.

Doxology
To God who all creation sings
        To Christ throughout eternity
Spirit who gives us life and breath
All praises be to the Trinity.

Psalm 23 (translation by Norman Fisher)
You are my shepherd, I am content
You lead me to rest in the sweet grasses
To lie down by the quiet waters
        And I am refreshed

You lead me down the right path
The path that unwinds in the patterns of your name

And even if I walk through the valley of the shadow of death
        I will not fear
        For you are with me
Comforting me with your rod and your staff
        Showing me each step

You prepare a table for me
In the midst of my adversity
And moisten my head with oil

        Surely my cup is overflowing
And goodness and kindness will follow me
All the days of my life
And in the long days beyond
I will always live within your house

Morning's Song
What wondrous love is this, O my soul, O my soul!
        What wondrous love is this!
        What wondrous love is this
That caused the Lord of bliss
To bear the heavy cross for my soul, for my soul,
To bear the heavy cross for my soul.

To God and to the Lamb, I will sing, I will sing,
To God and to the Lamb, I will sing,
To God and to the Lamb who is the Great I am,
While millions join the theme, I will sing, I will sing,
While millions join the theme, I will sing.

Blessing
May the Light of God’s Grace fall bright upon your face.
May the Hand of God’s Love be upon you, like a friend.
        and
May the Communion of Friends and Church be a constant
presence in your heart, a source of courage today,
and a reminder of the joy and promise of everlasting life.
        Amen.
