40 Maps and the Middle East

http://www.vox.com/a/maps-explain-the-middle-east

With all that's happening in Iraq, Iran, Syria, Israel and Turkey, it's helpful to 'see' some of the history, to 'see' it sketched out even on maps.  I've always struggled to 'untangle' religious issues from ethnic issues, conflicts over boundaries from conflicts over doctrine or political theory.  They're all related, clearly; but it's important to know which are which.  At least it's so for me.

These 40 maps are so helpful in that regard.  And I'm grateful to my friend and seminary classmate Jim Hollister for passing them along!  Jim will travel with us in October when our Interfaith Delegation returns to Israel and Palestine.
