Starting with the Man in the Mirror

The prophet risks a world beyond the world we can see with our eyes, or on our television sets...The prophet tells Peter to put down his sword, and dances in the street when Peter follows directions...The prophet says "Enough!"...The prophet reminds us that there's enough love in the human heart to heal this misery, and there's enough food in the fields to feed these children...

At today's lively vigil, by the Town Clock in Santa Cruz, my friend Curtis Reliford shone with a prophet's shine.  He moved among us as one who's already seen where we're heading.  He smiled at each passerby as one who's already tasted the future.

As we stood together, prayed together, swayed together, bore witness together--Curtis blasted Michael Jackson's "Man in the Mirror" on the stereo.

I'm starting with the man in the mirror
I'm asking him to change his ways
No lesson could have been any clearer
If you want to make the world a better place
Take a look at yourself
And make a change

The prophet knows.  This is true.
