Pray with Me

Dallas, July 7
On a night like tonight, I don't know what to do.  I don't know what to think.  I don't know how much TV to watch, when to turn it off, whether there's some prayer to pray.

There's a temptation on a night like tonight: to snap into an easy posture, to rage at a political candidate, to sum it all up.

But this sadness cannot be summed up.  These losses cannot be easily assessed.  The lives of a father in Baton Rouge, a friend in St. Paul, all those officers in Dallas...they cannot be summed up.  Anywhere.  By anybody.  They are lost.  They are lost.  They are lost.  Like Michael Brown.  Like Trayvon Martin.  Like Freddie Gray.  They are lost.

If you're in Santa Cruz this weekend, I invite you to AN HOUR OF PRAYER at Peace United, tomorrow (July 8), beginning at 12 noon in our sanctuary.  No easy answers.  No snap judgments.  But our grief, yes.  And our determination, yes.  And our sense of urgency, yes.  And our desire to heal America.
