In Thanksgiving for
David Haughey
Our Brother in Christ
and Dear Friend
David & Tom: Sound Technicians with a Good Ear(s) |
Eternal Spinner of the
Stars and Planets, Holy Mover of the Seas and Seasons, Great God of Love: We
thank you today for the life and decency and friendship of David Haughey. His warm companionship comforted us in seasons
of unrest and seasons of celebration.
His perseverance inspired us, in casual conversation, in daily routines,
and in bolder moments of discernment. In
David, we met the loving presence of your loving Christ, and his faithfulness
in friendship was a constant sign of Christ’s kindness and peace.
We remember David in
the sound booth at church every Sunday: his good humor and sweet
dependability. We remember him arriving
every Tuesday, like clockwork, to take our offerings to the bank: his joy in
simple and essential things. And we
remember him in bible study every Thursday: his quiet ways and eager
listening. He was our brother, he will
always be our brother, and we praise you for his life and faith and Christ-like
service.
In your extravagant
mercy, by your gentle love, surround Deborah, Michael and David’s loving family
in grace and strength. Anoint them with
comfort and satisfaction for their amazing devotion, constant love and care,
offered to David over so many years, and received in gratitude. May their memories today remind them of your
companionship and love—love which sourced their love and guided their
steps—over all these years and so many challenges.
By the great joy and
promise of our faith, O Holy One, we trust that David’s journey into the halls
of heaven is finished. And we give
thanks for the wholeness, joy, power and companionship he finds now, with you
and all the beloved, all the saints, all the sweet friends and family of his
life. Surely he is dancing now, and his
delight shines bright upon us all. May
that great feast be his joy, and our hope, in all the days to come.
With special gratitude
for David’s presence in our lives, at Peace United Church, which for so long
was First Congregational Church, we celebrate the unimaginably sweet ties that
bind us to one another in friendship and service. And we celebrate the amazing life of our
friend and our brother, David Haughey.
Truly he was your gift to us.
All these things we
pray, in deep and abiding thanksgiving,
Amen.
