A PRAYER: "On a Day of Fasting"

During the Season of Epiphany, I'll be fasting (water only) one day every week, beginning at sundown Wednesday and concluding at sundown Thursday.  My fast seeks solidarity with friends in the United Church of Christ and many others around the world living daily in the shadows of war and violence.  This evening, I lift up Tanesia Mack and all the women who pray, fast and organize for peace and abiding love in their cities and towns.  In my own fasting, I draw close to them in prayer and offer my energies to their work and vision.

"God of heaven and earth, we thank you because you know all things...Lord, our hearts are heavy with pain for our boys, girls and women, but especially for our black men, who have been killed and shot down. We're not praying against one race over another, but the injustice that has been and continues to inflict pain and death on the black race..."
