In the later part of the day, my energy wanes and my mind wanders. As I observe this, I do what I can to remember: to remember the peacemakers, and those who hunger and thirst for righteousness and the kingdom of God. I pause to pray for the King's Bay Plowshares 7--who symbolically disarmed Trident missles in Georgia and were arrested and tried. I pause to pray for Kim Phuc--whose journey through war and unimaginable violence has been touched by grace and an almost incomprehensible commitment to Christ. And I pause to pray for Omar Barghouti--whom I met just once, three summers ago, and whose determined commitment to Kingian nonviolence seems especially urgent and meaningful this weekend.
God of Liberating Dreams, God of Peace, God of the Ever-Loving Christ: Quicken the hearts and strengthen the resolve of your peacemakers, in every land, of every tongue, praying to you in all their many ways. Amen.
