PODCAST: "On Whitewashing History"
In this episode of "Intercepted," Professor Chenjerai Kumanyika discusses the urgency of history, the case for reparations and the difference between racism as thought (usually someone else's thought) and racism as a complex and embedded economic and social system of privilege. It's brilliant!
In the end, I find Chenjerai Kumanyika both bold and perceptive. His is a call to historical awareness and sophistication, and then to prophetic analysis and action. The point seems to be that consequential justice (racial justice, economic justice, human justice) will cost us something. Something like privilege. Something like unfettered capitalism. This is a really important voice, and a great podcast!
