(Economy, from the Greek, oikonomia, or 'the ways a house is ordered.')
What if economy is the household's true shape,
The way its kin keep one another safe,
And harvest green gardens and roaming vines,
And prepare good meals which we bless at table?
What if economy is the household's ebb, its flow,
The way the sick are cherished and loved,
And the well ones work a little harder to
Be sure the chores get done, the floors swept?
What if economy is the household's calling,
Our common vocation, the tilling of land,
And hospitality when a refugee needs rest,
The way we sing at the fire, late into evening?
What if economy is the divine blessing
At the heart of every man's span of years,
And we have simply to acknowedge and praise,
Only to share and provide for one another?
The economy is not for any man to open or close,
The economy is not for any woman to own or sell,
The economy is not for traders to trade, on screens.
This household is gift: these lands and seas, these winds and sky.
This household is not ours: but God's and God's alone.
This household is made holy and well by our justice.
Thus sayeth God.
