WAKE UP: "White Christian Nationalism is a Threat"

So let's be really, really clear.  Because they're telling us.  And they're none too subtle about it.  This is what White Christian Nationalism looks like in America.  This is what it looks like this week.  And tragically, we have a major political party going all in on this stuff.

1. The Governor of Texas wants to pardon racist vigilantes.

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said Saturday that he is seeking to pardon a U.S. Army sergeant who was convicted of murder in the 2020 fatal shooting of an armed protester during nationwide protests against police violence and racial injustice.

Their Vision for America: A nation run by white vigilantes, of white vigilantes, and for white vigilantes.  Their message to people of color, to people of conscience, to organizers for economic justice and democratic renewal?  Don't even try.

2. The Leadership in Tennessee has done its best to silence Black leaders and young voices.

Two Democratic state lawmakers whom Republicans recently expelled from the Tennessee legislature for their parts in a gun violence protest said on Sunday that their GOP colleagues’ decision has “resurrected a movement led by young people to restore our democracy.”

On March 30, three state lawmakers — Justin Jones, Justin Pearson and Gloria Johnson — briefly participated in a large protest outside the state Capitol calling for gun control measures after a shooter killed three children and three adults at a school in Nashville.

Their Vision for America: A government run by white racists, for white racists, of white racists.  Their message to people of color, to people of conscience, to organizers for economic justice and democratic renewal? Shut up.

3. Trump-Appointed judges are doing all they can to terrify and demoralize American women.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The nation’s top health official said Sunday that a court ruling threatening the availability of a main drug used in medication abortion was “not America” and he did not rule out defying the judge’s order if necessary.“We want the courts to overturn this reckless decision,” Xavier Becerra, President Joe Biden’s health secretary, told CNN’s “State of the Union.” “We want, yes, that women continue to have access to a drug that’s proven itself safe. Millions of women have used this drug around the world.”

Their Vision for America: A country where men do what they want to do, when they want to do it, and women pay the price--with their lives, their bodies and their freedom.  Their message to women, to people of color, to people of conscience? We will do anything we have to do to keep you in your place.

4. Supreme Court Justice Thomas is apparently willing to do the bidding of insanely wealthy Right Wing billionaires (and at least one is a Nazi sympathizer).

Harlan Crow, the Republican billionaire and megadonor to Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, allegedly has a collection of Adolf Hitler artifacts and Nazi memorabilia on display at his home, according to news reports.

Crow’s million-dollar estate in Dallas, Texas, houses Adolf Hitler artifacts, including two paintings by Hitler and a signed copy of his book “Mein Kampf,” along with a stockpile of other Nazi mementos such as a swastika medallion, statues of dictators of the 20th century in the backyard and more, according to the Washingtonian.

Their Vision for America: A judicial system where justice is for sale to the highest bidder, even if that "justice" is purchased by anti-democratic, authoritarian tyrants.  Their message to to people of color, to people of conscience, to organizers for justice and human rights? We own this place, and we'll do what we damn-well please.

5.  The Governor of Florida is intent on arming his entire state, promoting a culture of grievance, weaponry and distrust that seems destined to destroy democratic norms and process.

Days after three children and three adults were murdered at a Nashville, Tennessee, elementary school in March, DeSantis signed legislation allowing Floridians to carry concealed firearms without a permit.

The Republican, who is reportedly eyeing a 2024 run for president against Donald Trump, celebrated the law in a press release, declaring, “Constitutional Carry is in the books.”

Their Vision for America: Communities of meanspirited contempt, communities ruled by gun-toting zealots, communities of white power enforced by white institutions for the benefit of white property owners.  Their message to people of color, to people of conscience, to organizers for justice and human liberation?  You will pay for your uppity dreams.

White Christian Nationalism?  It's an affront to decency and democracy.  It's an attack on human rights and freedom.  It's a threat to our children's safety and our elders' sanity.  And let's face it.  It's a religion of fear and contempt, and it has no place, no rightful place, in a civilized land.
