COMMUNITIES EVOLVING: "Israelism"

"Israelism"
Last night I watched "Israelism" with a huge community of allies across the continent--and was deeply moved by its nuanced, complex and brave reading of Palestinian advocacy and pro-Israel resistance in the American Jewish community.  The movie follows several young Americans as they rethink the occupation and encounter new voices and possibilities within the world of Judaism itself.  It thoughtfully addresses trauma, even the trauma that persists in families and generations, and how that trauma might be more meaningfully and hopefully respected and transformed.  It bravely depicts the conversations that have shaken and shaped these young Jewish leaders into daring advocates for a world beyond war, beyond occupation, beyond apartheid.

I know that so many of us are torn--in the present moment--about our devotion to Jewish friends and communities, and our deep concern for war and violence and the occupation that fuels it all.  We want to live in that tension, honor it somehow--without yielding to poloarizing rage and misplaced bigotry.  Antisemitism and Islamophobia have no place in our communities, in our churches, in our country.  This movie is hard, but it offers a deeper dive into some of the contradictions we're facing, and many that are particularly relevant to Jewish friends and allies.  I recommend it highly!

More online screenings are planned: FIND THEM HERE.  So too are screenings at a number of colleges and community settings.
