What if this whole thing had gone differently...and what if the two remaining candidates in the Democratic field were Elizabeth Warren and Joe Biden?
Think about it, Democrats. Who's the best candidate on race? Who's the most compelling candidate on climate change? Who do you want addressing COVID-19 and nuclear proliferation? Think about it.
What if Sunday night's debate in Arizona pitted Elizabeth Warren (with her vision of governing, with her progressive platform, with her commitment to fighting for social and economic change) against Joe Biden (with his argument of returning to the 2016 status quo)?
What if the country--from this point forward--had a chance to choose between Biden and Warren? What if Democrats had a chance to weigh Warren's expertise and grit against Biden's--in light of the huge challenges at hand (COVID-19, climate change, gun control, economic injustice, Citizens United, etc.)? I know that I, for one, would feel a very different sense of hope for the nation, for the party, for the future...
Put Elizabeth Warren on that stage Sunday night, next to Joe Biden...and I think we see a stark, stark difference in style, volume and aptitude. I think we see a real choice. A choice that matters. We missed our chance.
